Cat 5 Cabling

We attract and retain technicians with five or more years of experience and an ongoing commitment to updating knowledge and competencies, and this is the team you can count on when it's time to select the best cabling solutions for your organization. As technology provides an ever-widening array of cabling and computing options, we stay on top of these advances and bring informed analyses to your situation.

Not sure whether to go wired or wireless? We can detail how each has its limits and advantages and guide you toward a good choice. Curious about changes in cabling? Wondering, for instance, about the differences between cat5e and cat 5 cabling? Contact us and we'll be happy to provide a free consultation, outlining what's out there and what will support your business most effectively.

To get you started, here's a quick primer on cat5 and cat6 cabling and fiber optics. All cable categories come with standards for cable lengths, wire gauges and more variables that will help us determine your best solution. Feel free to contact us for further details.

  • Cat5 - designed for basic voice services and Fast Ethernet, this cable category is characterized by high signal integrity, and includes four twisted pairs of cable housed in a cable jacket. Typified by three per-inch twists of 24ga copper, this category of cabling is insulated with low-dispersion plastic. Twisting cuts down on electrical interference.
  • Cat6 - Backward compatible, this cable category encompasses higher standards for crosstalk/interference. It may be made of 22-24ga copper wire and is typically terminated using RJ-45 connectors when used as patch cabling.
  • Fiber Optic - Localized networking is often built using this type of cabling as it provides more bandwidth than categories 5 or 6. High costs make it less attractive for some applications, though it provides a viable solution when linking between buildings.

Keep in mind that cabling is just part of the solution. All components come into play when Fournier Information Technology steps in to provide a stable and functional network.
